With a couple of weeks of numbers behind it, it’s no surprise that Catching Fire moved to the number two spot domestically as it brought in $27 million, bringing its domestic take to $336 million and a foreign take of $336 million as well, bringing its total so far to $673 million across 84 release territories and still more weeks ahead of it. It’s likely to not go all that much further and it’s actually struggling to get close to the original domestically, but it’s doing solid overall numbers. The surprise of the weekend was seeing Frozen hold on as well as it did with a 53% drop from the week before as it made $31 million, bringing its worldwide total to $190 million on its $150 million budget. Of course, there’s lots of money to be made from related properties to the film itself, so while film totals are important here, Disney’s playing a much larger game with it than just a focus on the film itself.
The only new opener this weekend was Out of the Furnace, which continued the streak of poor performing grim films as it nabbed just $5.3 million.
