CR Manga app

Q: With the release of the app for it and general accessibility, is it something that you’d find yourself using if you can read your manga on a big screen TV or through the official app on a tablet or phone?

Thomas – I’m not sure if I could ever read on a TV, but when I get a tablet of some sort, I can see that working pretty well.

Kate – I usually avoid reading manga on my phone, the screen is simply to small and I don’t own a tablet. I am curious to see if they could incorporate the reader into the PS3 or a PS4 app, then I might check it out on a very large screen.

Kestrel – I’ve only ever read digital manga on a computer, mainly because I don’t have a tablet or a smartphone, but I do use a TV as my computer monitor, and sometimes have a much bigger one to watch anime on from both my computer and PS3. I think the sizes of screens I use for my computers currently work pretty well for manga, but the scaling has surprisingly been a non-issue for me thus far, so maybe that wouldn’t change in other formats and sizes. But given my current setup, I don’t know that I’d ever end up using an app for it instead of simply a browser; although I’ve downloaded Crunchyroll’s PS3 app, I’ve never found reason to use it.

Mark – To be honest, I feel like I’d use it more in a tablet app form than as a desktop browser experience. Setup a reading experience similar (or better) to like the Comixology app would work well for me. I don’t know that I’d use my phone much for it, but certainly on my Surface or whatever would be great.

Chris K. – I have used the service on whatever device I can device already. I do not prefer phone sized mobile methods simply because of the size limitations. Too much art to observe and absorb that I’m robbed of by the tiniest possible viewing method. On the other hand, I’ve read three volumes of Space Brothers on my iPad already and I love it! If I have to read manga digitally, the iPad is my preferred method; it’s the closest I can get to holding a real book and the picture quality is terrific! I would not be interested in viewing the service on a TV because that just distances me even further from the manga reading experience, and quite honestly wouldn’t look that good to me. Digital comics on Blu-Ray movies have soured that already as I never felt they worked quite well enough to be a viable delivery method.

Josh – I’m limited to my desktop and laptop for the moment, and my eyes are old enough at this point where I can’t comfortably read for long periods of time on my phone. I think that if I had a tablet that would be the way to go, though.

Kory – I’d rather use a portable app to read any digital manga. Key word here is portable, which Crunchyroll’s is but is not. It requires an internet connection to read.

Mastilo – Like most of the others who’ve already commented, I wouldn’t read manga on my TV or phone. An app for the Kindle Fire akin to VIZ’s, however, would be most welcome!

Jessi – I can’t envision myself ever reading manga on a television screen, but I’m definitely onboard with being able to read manga on my android phone or my husband’s iPad. I’d initially thought that reading manga on such a small screen might feel restrictive, but the resolution is high enough that I feel the tradeoff in actual size isn’t a huge deal. It’s been similar to my experiences with streaming anime on my phone – I’m always surprised by how good it actually looks.
