Syfy Sets ’12 Monkeys’ TV Pilot

2 min read

12 MonkeysAs Syfy continues to work through its development slate, they’re adding another potential TV series based on a movie with 12 Monkeys getting a pilot order. The drama is based off of the film from way back in 1995 that was directed by Terry Gilliam with Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt starring. The new pilot is cast-contingent so it can fall apart pretty quickly, but with Universal producing along with Atlas Entertainment, they have plenty they can work from. The script, written on spec, was done by Terry Matalas and Travis Flickett of Terra Nova.

Plot concept: Cole (Bruce Willis) is sent back in time to save the human race from a deadly virus that has forced mankind into dank underground communities in the future. Along his travels, he encounters a psychiatrist (Madeleine Stowe) and a mental patient, brilliantly portrayed by Brad Pitt, who may hold the key to the mysterious rogue group, the Army of the 12 Monkeys, thought to be responsible for unleashing the killer disease. Believing he can obtain a pure virus sample in order to find a cure in the future, he is met with one riddle after another that puts him in a race with time.
