‘Black Jack’ TV Nearing Goal On Anime Sols, OVAs Could Arrive In Future

As of this writing, we’re down to the last day or so of Black Jack being produced by Anime Sols through their “kickstarter” like program, which you can find here. The company is at 157 people supporting it at just under $17,000 of its $22,000 goal. Similar occurred when we got towards the end of Creamy Mami, so we’re hoping that others will join in during the final day and hours and push this classic Osamu Tezuka title over the edge. And if that set gets to go into production, Anime Sols has indicated that they’ll start a new campaign for the 12 Black Jack OVA episodes as well, ten of which were previously released by CPM while the final two never saw release.

After all, it would make one of the original producers, Yoshihiro Shimizu, very happy, since he did take the time to record a special message for North American fans to encourage support for the set. Check out the pledge options and see what you can do to help this series see the light of day.

Plot Concept: Black Jack is an “unregistered” doctor with a clouded, mysterious past. He works with his little assistant Pinoko (who has a massive crush on the doctor), dealing with medical cases not very well known, which can be strange, dangerous, or not known at all. But he is a genius, and can save almost any of his patients’ life (as long as they have the money for it, that is), and is known to many around the world, especially to those of medicine and science. He’s a man of science himself, and does not believe much until he has seen it, yet it is many times he is surprised by love and nature often overpowering the science he bases his life in.
