Gainax has set a bit of good news for fans of the 2004 OVA release of RE: Cutie Honey as it will be coming to Blu-ray on October 11th, 2013 for 13,500 yen. The set will mirror the previous DVD release in what it will offer for extras, but it also includes a CD with drama material and a special booklet. The set will include the three episodes as previously seen, but unfortunately due to the age and design of the materials, it will be an upscale rather than a native HD release. The bonus DVD brings in lots of extra material while the main extras included in the release includes the announcement, a three part roundtable, a talk session and the clean versions of the opening and closing sequences.
The episodes run an average of 45 minutes each and unfortunately the series has not seen release in North America, making this Region A Blu-ray release tempting for many even if it is an upscale.
Plot concept: A mysterious organization known as Panther Claw make their presence known by terrorizing Tokyo and giving the cops a run for their money. Police are further baffled by the appearance of a lone cosplaying vigilante who thwarts all of Panther Claw’s evil schemes before disappearing. That cosplayer is Honey Kisaragi, the result of the late Professor Kisaragi’s prize experiment. A master of disguise, Honey can magically alter her physical appearance and outfits. But with a push of the heart-shaped button on her choker, she transforms herself into Cutie Honey, the scantily-clad, sword-wielding warrior of love and justice.
