Gyebaek Episode 8 “Fighting Dirty.”
The disclaimer: Spoilers for the Show Abound. Reader Discretion Advised.
Summary: Taken as a prisoner of war, Gyebaek loses his will to live. That’s when he meets Kim Yushin.

Let’s do the time warp again! Hey! Woo!
Alright, thats out of the way, especially since the time warp actually happened without even a screen note last last episode. The episode summary is a bit behind the times!
The Prince hasn’t exactly resolved into an upstanding young man. Nope, he’s caught off having ‘relations’ with some girl somewhere and has to flee from her usual client(?)’s bodyguards. Of course, Eungo and her friend save him.
Then it’s on to politics. Kinda funny that the men of this show seem to be completely at the mercy of the women.

The kids grew up shouldering their parents burdens. Gee what a shock.
The main issue now is that some powerful family is planning on marrying their daughter to the Evil Prince. Of course, Eungo suggests Uija find some way to marry her instead. … Good luck with that!
Then there was a conversation I completely missed the point of because the idea of bathing fully clothed in a tub of flower petals boggled my mind.

Uija’s been carrying on with weasel official’s concubine… carrying on with the serving girls… Of course, spunky friend is there to cover up the illicit love affair.

The King is pissed off though, of course. Uija has been holding back the perfect secret to launch at his father all these years later.. the fact that his mother didn’t trust the king.

I wish they’d said what year this is supposed to be, I missed it. The Prince looks far too old. Older than his dad! Eh, whatever. Everyone grew up ugly except the ugly girl… at least they sort of resemble their former actors.
Oh WAIT… this show is called Gye Baek right? Yeah, what’s he been up to…
Still fighting as a conscripted soldier for Silla under Kim Yushin and being tacturn and boring. Smart, but boring… and not talking. Which is driving Yushin nuts.

Meanwhile, Eungo and Uija’s plan at trying to hook him up with the daughter of the cool old guy is going oddly. He basically admits to having ‘relations’ with her… to her father… which hasn’t and didn’t happen.

Awesome way to a gals heart, slandering her all over the capital! Playing dirty is only gong to create a bigger mess. Or, you know… have the Evil Prince threaten to gut you.

The Evil Queen had asked Eungo to spy on Uija, and now the Queen is asking for others to spy on him. Eungo had better watch herself.
Well… the politics and out manuevering are great and all, but let’s go storm a fort!

Ah, that’s better. Armed with a ton of knives Gye Baek and his band of criminals decimate a fort in a sneak attack. And there was much rejoicing.
However, Baekje isn’t so happy with Silla’s recent victory. In fact, it’s time for some good old fashioned war.

Uh… uh oh?

Yup. Uh oh.

Gye Baek can be watched on Crunchyroll or Hulu. Hulu’s stream is 16 x 9 (I believe Crunchyroll’s free stream is 4 x 3). Each episode is a whopping 60+ minutes.
As usual, I encourage anyone to watch along with me! It’s not too late to catch up, after all, the series is long over.

See you next episode!
