‘A Certain Scientific Railgun S’ Anime Production Announced

2 min read

After the successful TV series in 2009-2010 for A Certain Scientific Railgun, and the manga still going on in Japan, there were always good chances for another series. It was raised even more when the announcement came before about a theatrical film that’s due out in February 2013, as it always helps to drive support and raise awareness with a TV series. The patience on the fans part has paid off as A Certain Scientific Railgun S has been announced for production in Japan. No broadcast season has been announced or other details beyond that JC Staff will be returning to handle the animation production itself.

The original season, A Certain Magical Index along with A Certain Scientific Railgun have both been licensed in the US by FUNimation, though no release has yet been set. The Railgun manga has been acquired in the US by Seven Seas Entertainment with six volumes solicited so far.

Manga Concept: Welcome to a world where mysticism and science collide and supernatural powers are derived from either science or religion. At the heart of this world is Academy City, an advanced metropolis whose population is comprised mostly of students. The majority of students are enrolled in the city’s “Power Curriculum Program,” where they must learn to master their latent psychic powers. Out of several million students, only seven are deemed powerful enough to have Level 5 status.

Meet Mikoto Misaka, the third-most powerful Level 5 esper in Academy City. Together with her best friend Kuroko Shirai and the other members of Judgment, a student-run law enforcement agency, Mikoto delves deep into the dark heart of the scientific sprawl she calls home, and uncovers secrets she wishes she hadn’t!
