‘Guardians Of The Galaxy’ Gets New Writer

2 min read

While a lot of people are kind of either ambivalent at best or outright scared at the direction Marvel Studios is taking with part of its second wave, I continue to be thrilled that they’re taking a chance on Guardians of the Galaxy and trying to go big and expand into the realm of space. With the feature due on August 1st, 2014, we’ve got a lot of news ahead of us as it moves forward. The initial script penned by Nicole Perlman is getting another draft as Chris McCoy is coming on for a rewrite. PErlman was part of a writing program that Marvel Studios had and she comes from a space oriented film writing background with work penned for both the Challenger and Neil Armstrong, which should give this film some grounding. Chris McCoy is part of the whole Black List group of writers that has had projects stalled and this one is definitely leg up for him. His previous works include  2007′s Get Back, 2009′s Good Looking and 2011′s Good Kids.

As for the cast, it’s been mentioned in different stages, but another recent report works to firm it all up a little more.

Drax The Destroyer, a human resurrected as a green warrior with the sole purpose of killing Thanos (the villain in the Avengers final scene tease); Groot, a giant tree-man; Star-Lord, a gun-toting half-human/half-alien inter-galactic vigilante; Rocket Raccoon, a genetically engineered animal with a knack for guns and explosives; and Gamora, the last survivor of her species who was saved by Thanos to be his assassin but now battles him.
