‘Hunger Games’ DVD/BD Gets Dated

2 min read

After racking up some strong theatrical revenue when it came out in March and is still being a good earner at the end of May, Lionsgate has revealed to Entertainment Weekly that the home video release for The Hunger Games will land on August 18th. The first blush cover artwork has been revealed as well as a summary of what some of the extras will be all about. It’s rather good to see that there are extras here right out of the gate rather than a barebones release that will force you to double dip down the line, but you can easily imagine another edition hitting before the sequel hits in late 2013, especially with some Movie Cash incentives included in it.

“over three hours of unreleased material, with features that provide insight into how the film was made, interviews with the cast and crew, and details about some of the story lines that differed from the book — like President Snow’s character (Donald Sutherland) and the role of the game maker (Wes Bentley). An eight-part documentary entitled The World is Watching: Making of The Hunger Games delves into the behind-the-scenes aspect of creating the film. The extras also include the full-length “Propaganda Film” shown during the Reaping.”
