Star Wars Thursday: Alliance Assemble! Edition

2 min read

Welcome to this week’s edition of Star Wars Thursday, a celebration of all things fun, wild, and wacky in the Star Wars universe!

It’s been an eventful month for the geeky among us, since Star Wars Day coincided with the US release of the Avengers, which was followed by Free Comic Book Day. Last week was dedicated to the frivolity of May the Fourth, so this week I’m dedicating my energy to unearthing and displaying Avengers and Star Wars mashups.

My twitter feed was greatly entertaining on Avengers’ opening day, with Chris Eliopoulus contributing some prime mashed up quotes.

The header image for the post is from Mike Verta. He offers the adorable R2 Iron Man image for download on his Facebook page. (can you link the URL here so people can grab the image?)

Do you think Tony Stark would object to being combined with a puny (but amazing) little droid? Check out this image, which has him wielding lightsabers instead. Pride and aggression may lead him to the dark side, but perhaps the Captain can keep him from crossing the line. This one is from the Deviantart user MrMohiuddin.

We wouldn’t want to leave Thor out of the loop, since his flowing hair and muscled biceps make me swoon. Check out this video which plays off of the popular Darth Vader commercial from the Super Bowl.

Lest you think I’m just forcing some of these Star Wars and Avengers comparisons, I offer the following link. IGN created an entire post on May 4th explaining the similarities between Luke and Captain America, Tony Stark and Han Solo, Agent Coulson and R2D2, and more. I knew there was a reason that I am partial to Stark. Check it out and let us know which ones you think ring true, and which are just stretching it too thin.

Come back next week to find out what bizarre new bits of Star Wars fandom I’ve managed to uncover. Until then – May the Force be with you… and Assemble!
