Acclaimed Anime Director Noburo Ishiguro Passes Away

2 min read

Through reports coming out of the Asahi Shimbum newspaper, an obituary has been posted for a long time anime veteran as Noboru Ishiguro has passed away at the age of 73. Ishiguro has a long and extensive history within the anime industry in Japan with involvement in series as far back as Tetsujin 28 through others like Yamato and the story for the three Megazone 23 OVAs. Many of his works have ended up being viewed outside of Japan over the years before domestic anime industry started with shows like the Macross series as adapted into Robotech. His work was primarily in the realm of science fiction and his contributions are immense, including such series as Legend of the Galactic Heroes and tackling the big screen adaptation of one of his TV series with Macross: Do You Remember Love?

Noboru Ishiguro’s works are the reasons many older anime fans are anime fans to begin with and continue to this day, though works that he created in the earlier part of his career are few and far between nowadays. We offer our condolences to his family and our thanks to him for the works and enjoyment he created over the years that will be savored and enjoyed for many more to come.

  1. It’s true, I became a anime fan before most people knew that anime existed due to Robotech/Macross. Do you Remember Love is a beautiful film and I’m sad so many have not seen it. Ishiguro san will be missed.
