McClane Son Cast For ‘Die Hard 5’

2 min read

One of the more interesting things to follow when it comes to the progress made with the fifth Die Hard film, entitled A Good Day to Die Hard, is to see what they would do with the lead character’s son. With Bruce Willis set to return to the role of John McClane for at least one more time, the idea is that they’d be able to age the son enough now to potentially have him take over the franchise going forward. Hard to do, but with the cash cow that the franchise is, you’ll try anything. What the producers have done is chosen Jai Courtney, of TV series Spartacus fame, to take on the role in the February 14th, 2013 release directed by John Moore. Courtney only has a couple of TV series to his name at this point and not even a Wikipedia page but he’s appearing in the upcoming Tom Cruise feature One Shot which should help boost his name recognition a bit as well.

Plot Concept: A Good Day to Die Hard puts McClane on an international stage, truly a NYC fish out of water in Moscow, and introduces his estranged son Jack (Jai Courtney). An apple that has not fallen far from the tree, Jack may even be more of a hardass than his father. Despite their differences, they must work together to keep each other alive and keep the world safe for democracy.
