After a couple of pretty good episodes, Un-Go goes back to a more traditional route as Shinjurou is brought in to deal with a new problem. The focus this time around for him and his group is to figure out what it is that a hacker group called “Full Circle” wants as they’re causing trouble for a corporation named JJ Systems. Their impact is being done on both the physical and mental level as they’re orchestrating a media campaign to put the company in a bad light while also putting some physical damage within the company itself as seen through an incident there that knocked out a lot of things. This has a bit of note to it as Kaishou was appearing there, though it was done remotely which surprised others when he suddenly winked out of camera view just as the incident got underway.

Investigating the explosion is the initial focus of events here, though there’s something where you have Shinjurou saying plainly that Kaishou’s involvement and methods here paint him as a potential suspect. Problematic for Shinjurou is also the fact that Inga is lost at this point to him and operating on her own, as we see her watching from the distance a couple of times with a look of concern. There’s some good material here that deals with the way the investigation goes but there’s also the simple fact that there’s so much unknown here that it really gets to Shinjurou as it progresses. In particular, when he and Inga do get back together after some time, it’s pretty tense between the two of them and that makes for some good emotions out of Shinjurou at the least, though you can see that Inga isn’t too pleased either.

In Summary:
Unlike the two parter that was played previously, this episode goes back to how I felt about the majority of the series to date in that it’s just a mess in getting across its story and actually making it interesting. While it may be doing things well technically, especially with its great looking animation and settings, it falters heavily when it comes to the actual characters themselves and the structure of the story. It’s been impossibly hard to actually care or be interested in just about everything here. I can’t recall the last series that frustrated me as much as Un-Go does.
