The Review:
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
After seven episodes of adventure in the school, things get shaken up a bit this time around as the school has a day off where everyone gets to go have fun and do whatever they want. Most of the girls have visions of shopping, checking out various cafes and the like and enjoying the park and more. Others are more interested in the technical aspects of the town while some like Taketo aren’t sure why they’re even having the day off but still goes along with it to explore the place and enjoy what it has to offer. And, of course, to have a few fantasies mildly pass through his mind. He spends most of it with Narukara and that has some cute moments with the montages and the like.

The events that they run into a fairly boilerplate but some of the fun comes from the fact that Utae has decided to follow them to see what’s going on. Of course, she gets accosted along the way because of her fame and that just makes it all the more problematic for her in trying to find out what’s going on. For Taketo, it’s a good thing as he and Narukara end up getting caught in a rainstorm which means some see through clothes on her part, which he’s actually gallant about. But considering his nature, you really want that to go in a fantasy direction. What makes it easier to handle is that when they hide out from the rain, the pair end up outside of an elaborate love hotel.

A lot of the humor for this episode is derived from their time at the love hotel and it pays off handsomely. They’re in there just to get dry for a bit but everything keeps turning sexual. Narukara takes a shower and he can’t help but listen. He looks away when she comes out to change into the bathrobe but every wall in the room has mirrors so he can’t help but to see. Porn on the TV? You got it. There’s a sweet side to the episode as well with how Taketo talks to her, but there’s so much smut in his mind and heart that it kind of overrides things at times. And at his age and hormones as they are, it’s not a surprise. The honesty in how he views things is refreshing, though of course not all boys are like that, but it’s what drives many of us during those years. And many years beyond it a well.

In Summary:
R-15 hasn’t really capitalized on what it can do, even with all the rampant censorship in it, but it starts to hit it better with this episode. Considering the premise and the young mind at play, it is exactly what we want to see out of it with the sexuality and innuendo of it all. With several scenes going into fantasy mode and lots of views of the girls Taketo knows being sexualized in his mind even when he doesn’t want to, it gives us a lot of what the viewer wants. It’s not trying to dance around it like other shows, so when it does actually do that dancing, it feels like it’s not being what it should be. There’s a lot to like here for the simple fun that it is, though as much as I like Narukara, I still want more Taketo x Utae action.
