Entertainment Weekly seems to be the go-to place to get shots of the in-production first of four Hunger Games movies, and the newest issue that’s out shortly features the first look at Josh Hutcherson as Peeta and Liam Hemsworth as Gale. The feature, due on March 23rd, 2012, is a big hopeful for Lionsgate as they want it to be their Twilight since the books do have a very strong following (and I just picked up the ebook trilogy myself to start in with so I’ll know more as the production continues. Do they fit the bill as you imagine from the characters as described?
Plot synopsis: Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains.
Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to returnhome to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.
