Life is only getting tougher for Scott as the series progresses and it’s made worse by having less and less of the things that have helped him cope with it. After the events of the school at night, he’s caused quite a bit of trouble by pinning everything on Derek who now has the role of Public Enemy Number One with the police. It’s got him pretty ticked at Scott in general, but there’s at least a little revelation that comes from it. When the two do get back together, briefly, the symbol that Derek has discovered makes sense to Scott with it being the same as what’s on Allison’s necklace. Suffice to say, they’re definitely making it difficult for the two of them to be together, though there’s always a way to work it somehow.

Not surprisingly, the subplot involving Jackson continues to be a real favorite and this episode brings in some good stuff. An exam from a doctor with how he’s feeling has him going to the edge in how he feels and it’s a bloody, brutal and chilling scene as the doctor tries to help him. I loved the visuals of this as well as the way Jackson reacted to the pain and the blood splattering everywhere. While it’s not clear what the reality of it is, it’s enough for Jackson to finally figure out exactly what Scott is at this point. This is one small twist to things, but whatever it is that Jackson knows at this point, it serves only to put Scott even more on edge because there are several ways he can use it to his advantage.

Jackson is definitely becoming a driving force in the series and he has a lot of really good material here. With the knowledge he has, seeing him put it into effect definitely works and it gets under Scott’s skin easily. The way he toys with him in the lunch room is great and definitely appropriate to the age, and he capitalizes on it all by actually going forward with the pursuit of Allison that he goes on about. And Jackson’s plans, when put into motion, do start causing some waves at school (literally and figuratively) and he has a wonderful scene with Lydia where she calls him out on it. And with him now feeling confident about his position, what he knows and what he really wants, he goes all out in a smug teenage way.

Allison has some good material as well as she deals with the fallout from the school incident and her problems with Scott. Those problems aren’t as big a factor as what happened in the school though as she felt fear there, felt weak and felt like she needed to be rescued which just goes against her nature in a huge way. Revealing this to her aunt Kate opens up the path for her to much more easily be drawn into the family business. And that business gets some interesting exposure along the way here as Scott fills Jackson in on it when the two are forced into some time together, and Jackson puts the pieces together far more easily than the distracted Scott about what her family name means. Everything is really coming together in a great way and the characters are riding it in a very fun and enjoyable manner.

In Summary:
Teen Wolf hits up a really strong episode again here, which is a pretty consistent theme for the show. The revelation about the Alpha hits here as we learn who it is, and it’s definitely an unex-pected twist in my mind that definitely helps merit a re-watch of the series down the road. The character drama side is quite good here as it’s all tinged with the supernatural edge as well and it all comes together in a fantastic way. There’s a real energy and darkness to this show with some truly engaging characters that makes this a big highlight of my week even with all the shows I watch. Add in the extra trailer that was put after the episode ended that focuses on what’s to come in the three remaining episodes of the series and I am supremely pumped to see where it all goes. This has been the must watch series of the summer that deserved a proper fall run.
