Star Wars Thursday – Your Royal Highness Edition

2 min read

Welcome to a Princess installment of Star Wars Thursday – a weekly celebration of the wild and wacky world of Star Wars fandom.

Little girls are bombarded by frilly princesses. When I was a wee one (seriously, people, it wasn’t that long ago), we didn’t have the likes of bookworm Belle or adventurous Jasmine. We had Cinderella and Snow White. That is, until Princess Leia hit the big screen.

Leia was smart, witty, and in charge of her own destiny. She needed a bit of rescuing, but wasn’t content to just sit back and wait for her scoundrel in shining armor. Instead, she wielded a blaster, donned disguises, and swooped in for her share of the action. Her snarky one-liners tripped off my tongue, and I called more than one guy a “scruffy looking nerf herder”. In short, she was my hero.

In honor of “her Worshipfulness”, I scoured the internet for Leia related items. The first is a shirt I would gladly wear, if they made it in adult sizes (well, maybe if it were in another color). We should take away the old fashioned Disney princess related garb and replace it with shirts like this one!

The next one is also a shirt, but for the adults among us. Leia was more than just a pretty face; she was the heart of the Rebel Alliance. While there weren’t many women shown fighting in the rebellion, Leia’s leadership and passion helped fuel the fires.

Imagine, if you will, what would have happened if Darth Vader had found Leia first and convinced her to join him. I fell in love with this image when it first crossed my Twitter feed a few weeks ago. This definitely makes the “hit list” for me of the top ten outfits I would cosplay.

The last bit is a video tribute to Leia. When you need someone to boss you around, someone with whom to trade some snappy comebacks, or someone who will rescue YOU: Leia is the woman!
