Transformers: Prime Episode #07: Scrapheap Review

3 min read

If it’s frozen in a huge block of ice, leave it be. Don’t de-thaw it!

What They Say:
Scrapheap – Bumblebee and Ratchet eliminate a swarm of Scraplets.

The Review:
Nothing good can come from an arctic find, something numerous movies and TV shows have taught us over the years, but it’s something that escapes the Autobots. During a scouting run there, Bulkhead and Bumblebee come across a sizable pod and bring it back to the base. That leads to quite the puddle that forms as they wait until the time is right to open it since it is pretty frozen. Of course, they’re not paying proper attention to it as Prime and Arcee head back off to the arctic for more exploration while Ratchet has the others helping him repair the bridge device as it’s run into some sort of mysterious problem.

That problem is actually what was in the pod, a bunch of cute little Scraplets that are all about causing problems like gremlins. Because these little metallic creatures are all about eating metal, they’re considered quite the vermin by the Autobots and it’s priceless when Raff walks into the main room with one, treating it like a cut pet. Before it turns into the equivalent of a Transformers piranha. They’ve got a big taste for living metal and the pod has more than just the one in it. There is a certain cuteness to them and the way the Autobots are panicking over it, but with the real menace that they are there, especially if there are thousands that poured out of the pod, the fears are certainly justified. Even worse is that Prime and Arcee are in the arctic and the groundbridge is down. With cold being a dangerous problem for the Autobots, the clock is ticking to deal with it all.

In Summary:
Unlike the past episodes, there isn’t all that much meat to this one. It is a good bit of fun as the Scraplets are cute both in their normal mode and when they get all piranha-like, but the whole thing is essentially just a big trap from ages ago that’s been sprung. It certainly has its malice to it as the Scraplets are a huge problem and Prime and Arcee are in a great deal of danger, but with it not being a key part to the overall storyline for the season it’s just a placeholder. Not a bad one by any stretch of the imagination, but one that won’t leave too much of an impression. Unless they make lots of Scraplets toys, cause those would be awesome.
