‘Expendables 2’ Gets A Release Date

1 min read

With Sylvester Stallone talking up the possibility of coming back together for another installment of The Expendables, you knew it was pretty much inevitable. The sequel now has been green lit with a release date of August 17th, 2012, which brings it to pretty much on target for two years since the first one which starred Jason Statham, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Terry Crews and Steve Austin. Who will return for the sequel is very much up in the air at the moment but it’s likely we’ll see a decent chunk of them and potentially bigger roles for some, like Schwarzenegger and Willis, who basically did cameos in the first one due to various commitments at the time.

Did The Expendables do well enough to warrant a sequel? While it got plenty of decent buzz and some solid love from classic action fans, the $80 million project brought in $275 million worldwide just in its theatrical release. Add in VOD, PPV, rental and home video sales and that’s a nice chunk of change to try and see if you can make the magic happen twice.
