Ryan Coogler Returning For More ‘Black Panther’

2 min read

With the Black Panther film making a whopping $1.35 billion worldwide just on theatrical box office receipts, a sequel was a given. But with Marvel Studios, directors play a slightly different role than in most other films and there’s always some uncertainty as to whether they or the director wants to come back, though everyone is always all smiles for awhile.

Thankfully, with this film, Ryan Coogler and Marvel Studios really clicked and it’s been confirmed that he will be coming back to write and direct the sequel. Coogler hasn’t had much going on since the film was released beyond being associated with the new Space Jam sequel as an executive producer.

No release date for the Black Panther sequel is set yet as Marvel Studios has not detailed their post-Avengers 4 plans yet.

Check out our ranking of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and our review of Black Panther.

The first film was written by Joe Robert Cole and Ryan Coogler with Coogler directing and arrived on February 16th, 2018. The cast included Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan as Erik Killmonger, Lupita Nyong’o as Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Andy Serkis as Ulysses Klaw, Winston Duke as M’Baku, Forest Whitaker as Zuri, Angela Bassett, Martin Freeman, Latitia Wright, Florence Kasumba, Sterling K. Born, and John Kani.

Plot concept: Black Panther follows T’Challa who, after the events of “Captain America: Civil War,” returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation of Wakanda to take his place as King. However, when an old enemy reappears on the radar, T’Challa’s mettle as King and Black Panther is tested when he is drawn into a conflict that puts the entire fate of Wakanda and the world at risk.
