‘Black Butler’ Anime Feature Green-lit

2 min read

Black Butler MovieIt’s been a very good time for Black Butler fans the last year or so as after getting the two TV seasons starting back in 2008, you would normally not see any more produced. Yet last year saw the arrival of not just the new TV series that continued the tale but also a two-part OVA series that got a minor theatrical run in Japan before the home video.

Now the official Twitter account has revealed that a feature anime film has gotten approval and is in the works. The main cast of Daisuke Ono and Maaya Sakamoto are reprising their roles as well. No details beyond that were provided.

The property comes from the manga Kuroshitsuji that began back in 2006 from Yana Toboso. The series is still ongoing with the 22nd volume coming out next month. Yen Press releases the series domestically while FUNimation has handled the anime localizations.

Original premise: In Victorian-era Europe, a young boy loses everything he once held near and dear to a vicious plot. In his moment of death, he strikes a deal with a demon: his soul, in exchange for revenge. Ciel Phantomhive is now the head of the Phantomhive corporation, handling all business affairs as well as the underground work for the Queen of England. His new partner is a demon butler, Sebastian Michaelis, whose powers as a butler is only surpassed by his strength as a demon.

The story follows the two along with their other servants, as they work to unravel the plot behind Ciel’s parents’ murder, and the horrendous tragedies that befell Ciel in the month directly after.
