Jenna Dewan-Tatum Boards ‘Supergirl’ Series As Lucy Lane

Jenna Dewan-TatumWhile her husband Channing Tatum is setting himself up in the Marvel Universe with Gambit, Jenna Dewan-Tatum is settling into the DC Comics universe on TV this fall. The actress formerly of Witches of East End has now been cast as Lucy Lane in a recurring role on the series. While the show doesn’t have a Lois in it, owing to the kind of light touch to the core Supeman mythology, the character is well known to comics fans and one with a regular relationship with Jimmy Olsen in the books. She also ended up becoming Superwoman at one point in the books. The character has made her way to the world of TV before in Superman: The Animated SeriesLois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman and Smallville.

CBS previously announced the formal premiere date of October 26th, 2015, but at 8:30 for that night. While it’ll be at 8pm regularly thereafter, by putting it here they get to put it after the new episode of Big Bang Theory that night to try and keep people watching, which makes sense since Big Bang Theory is one of the highest rated network shows out there these days. That show isn’t on its usual Thursday’s at that point due to the football season, so it’ll be moving back there in November and Supergirl eases down to the 8pm slot.

The pilot was written by Greg Berlanti and Ali Adler. Berlanti has been responsible for both Arrow and The Flash on The CW. CBS has picked up the show to series already for the fall 2015 season. It stars Melissa Benoist as Kara, Mehcad Brooks Brooks, Davide Harewood as Hank Henshaw, Chyler Leigh as Alexandra Danvers, Laura Nenanti as Alura Zor-El and Calista Flockhart as Cat Grant. Dean Cain and Helen Slater are guest starring in the pilot.

Plot concept: The series centers on Kara Zor-El (Benoist). Born on the planet Krypton, Kara Zor-El escaped amid its destruction years ago. Since arriving on Earth, she’s been hiding the powers she shares with her famous cousin, Superman. But now at age 24, she decides to embrace her superhuman abilities and be the hero she was always meant to be.
