Akira Ishida Latest To Join ‘Ace of the Diamond’ Anime Cast

Akira Ishida as Hisashi WatanabeThe second series for Ace of the Diamond continues to build on its cast as the team deals with new opponents and the latest to be added to the show is that of Akira Ishida, one of the more popular male voice actors out there in Japan. Ishida has been around for some time, with his early role as Xellos in Slayers getting him attention to shows like Berserk and Digimon. He’s also got a little bit of a fandom going for his performance as Kaworu in the three Evangelion movies. Ishida is joining this series in the role of Hisashi Watanabe, one of the younger characters he’s had to work with in some time.

It was recently announced that Soma Saito was taking on the role of Taiyo Mukai, Tomokazu Sugita in the role of Kengo Inui,  Yuuma Uchida, as Okumura Koushu, and Daiki Yamashita as Seto Takuma.

The second season is getting a bit of a move in Japan to something that will garner it more attention with audiences there, which means simulcast episodes will now start appearing on Monday’s, at 6:30am ET.

Plot concept: I want to pitch to that mitt again… A meeting with catcher Kazuya Miyuki changed the 15-year-old Eijun Sawamura’s life. He said goodbye to all his friends and knocked upon the door of Seidou, a prestigious baseball school, intent on testing his own strength. There, he met many proud baseball players who were betting everything on the sport! A classic tale, yet new and fresh. All the emotion and excitement of the popular baseball manga is at last coming to television in the form of an anime!
