Originally kicking off back in 2005, an end period has been set for Neon Genesis Evangelion – The Shinji Ikari Raising Project. The manga series that comes from Osamu Takahashi has announced with its 17th volume that’s out this weekend that the 18th volume of the series will be the final one. The serialization in Monthly Shonen Ace Magazine will come to a close in summer 2015, giving the book a very solid and respectable ten year run, particularly noteworthy since it comes from an anime series that predated that by over ten years.

The property has been getting a release in North America from Dark Horse Comics since 2009 and the publisher is set to bring out the 15th volume of it next month.

Series concept: Stunning, hotheaded Asuka Langley Soryu has been friends with Shinji Ikari since they were little. And she always sort of assumed they’d stay together – until the day the beautiful, brilliant Rei Ayanami showed up in class! When Shinji starts to get curious about Rei, Asuka needs to figure out if she wants to be just friends with Shinji, or something more. But why are so many people keeping an eye on these relationships – people like homeroom teacher Misato, school nurse Ritsuko, and Shinji’s mother, NERV’s chief scientist, Yui Ikari…?
