There are a whole lot of quotable movies out there to be sure, comedies especially. And I certainly here plenty of quotes being bandied about by my kids as they get further and further out of the kids movies. Because those quotes can be quite tiring after awhile.
Genre films tend to have some of the better quotes outside of comedies since they’re making statements that can stand out. Films like Ghostbusters have plenty as a mix of genres and obviously you could basically cite most Monty Python films as being a series of quotable moments.
To pick one truly is impossible. While I love and use the quote from Aliens about nuking it from orbit, the one that I stick with the most that makes me grin is from John Carpenter’s They Live. I had enjoyed several of his films by the time this came out, but it was my first film of his that I got to see in the theater. And the film itself was an absolute trippy experience that is still quite relevant today, one of the few films of his that I think truly demands a sequel to just lay it all out there and castigate the system.
Because we are truly all out of bubblegum. It’s now time to kick ass.
Such an awesome movie.
