There are a lot of modern directors that I really enjoy, whose works will draw me in no matter what they do just to see what they come up with. I’ve long enjoyed Joss Whedon’s work and I definitely enjoy the slate of films James Cameron has developed over the years. Ridley Scott has his misses, but his hits are striking. There’s definitely a lot to like about Steven Spielberg and what he’s produced and been involved in and one of the current directors that I’m intrigued by is David Ayers as Fury has left a significant mark on me. And there’s the slate of foreign directors and anime ones that draw me in as well, from Miyazaki to Kieslowski.

But everything goes back to one man for me.

Stanley Kubrick

From the moment I was introduced to 2001: A Space Odyssey, I was sold. His films are all quite diverse, though they all in the end look at the human condition in so many different ways and lights. Whether it’s in the stars, in the darkened rooms of mysterious people or a weapon named Charlene, he was able to provoke a sense of wonder and intensity in so many of his films that they have become the referential point for many directors ever since, trying to find their own way to be like him in the end work while also trying to not look like his works because everyone has their vision.

He may not have the lengthiest list of works over the years, and some aren’t a well known as others, but the breadth and style of it all is distinctive and they are works that, as collected really must be seen.

Take a sample of some of his works below!
