Marvel Lays Out Ambitious Phase Three Film Plans

6 min read

Marvel StudiosMarvel held a press event today to start laying out their Phase three slate of films going into what will happen as the post-Avengers: Age of Ultron filns come out and it’ll be pretty interesting. We know that film and Ant-Man are landing in 2015 and now we’re moving into more formal announcements of what’s to come in 2016 and beyond. First up is Doctor Strange, which gets a bit more information than the other films. Interestingly, we’ve learned that Phase Three begins not with Ant-Man like we thought, figuring anything after an Avengers film is the start, but rather Captain America: Civil War is the start of phase three.

Doctor Strange Header

Come November 2016, the good Doctor is in! At a special presentation at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced Marvel’s “Doctor Strange” would hit theaters November 4, 2016, marking the hero’s big screen debut. Scott Derrickson will direct the film introducing the Master of the Mystic Arts to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “It takes a while to work on these movies before they’re ready to come to you in theaters,” said Feige. “Doctor Stephen Strange, brilliant neurosurgeon, bit of an arrogant fellow who gets in a car accident and ruins what he thinks are the tools of his trade: his hands. “In the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of the supernatural, that involves everything from quantum mechanics to string theory. The idea of this film is to open up a whole new corner of the cinematic universe. We want to enter, through Strange, the world of parallel dimensions.” More on Marvel.com: http://marvel.com/news/movies/23542/marvels_doctor_strange_conjures_up_a_november_2016_release_date#ixzz3HSvNYzzx

Black Panther Header 2017 will see the debut of Black Panther, bringing the King of Wakanda to the big screen. We expect the country will have some part in Age of Ultron.

As part of his presentation of the full slate for Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige has announced that Chadwick Boseman will bring the Black Panther to life beginning with his role in Marvel’s “Captain America: Civil War,” in theaters May 6, 2016, before starring in his own solo film, Marvel’s “Black Panther,” on November 3, 2017.

“I’m blessed to be a part of this Marvel Universe, and to work with you both, and I look forward to making magic together,” Boseman said after taking the stage with both Robert Downey, Jr. (Iron Man) and Chris Evans (Captain America).

“Black Panther and all of Wakanda is one of the most interesting characters in Marvel history,” remarked Feige. “Something I already showed you today contains an Easter egg that leads directly into ‘Black Panther.’ He’s a bit of a prince, he may even become a bit of a king, but it’s all about how this isolationist country meets the world. Maybe it goes well, maybe it doesn’t.”

Captain Marvel Header 2018 will see the debut of their first female lead superhero film with Captain Marvel on July 6th, 2018.

Carol Danvers has set a flight path straight into the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

The super heroine will make her debut in Marvel’s “Captain Marvel” on July 6, 2018, headlining the first female-led film from Marvel Studios. President Kevin Feige made the announcement at a special event revealing the full lineup of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Phase 3 at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood.

“This Captain Marvel’s name is Carol Danvers,” said Feige. “This film has been in the works almost as long as Doctor Strange or Guardians of the Galaxy before it came out, and one of the key things was figuring out what we wanted to do with it. Her adventures are very earthbound, but her powers are based in the cosmic realm.”

Thor Ragnarok Header While summer 2017 will see the third outing for Thor with Thor: Ragnarok. The previous film had a fall release, so it’s good to see this moving into the summer months.

The Norse End of Days will come to the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Marvel’s “Thor: Ragnarok” on July 28, 2017!

Chris Hemsworth will don the Mighty Avenger’s cape once more for the hero’s third solo adventure, and with a title as foreboding as “Ragnarok” you know he’ll have to rise to his toughest challenge yet this time around!

“This is a very important movie for us in Phase 3,” said Marvel’s Kevin Feige. “We plan on taking Thor to another level. It picks up where we leave Thor in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ and impacts everything that comes after.”

Inhumans Header 2018 in the fall will see the debut of the Inhumans feature.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige made the announcement at a special event laying out the full slate of films for Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood.

“November 3, 2018 will introduce dozens of characters into the Marvel Cinematic Universe,” promised Feige. “We really do believe the Inhumans can be a franchise or a series of franchise unto themselves. They have dozens of powers and an amazing social structure. With our 20th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we wanted to continue to refine what that universe is about.”

Avengers Infinity War Part 1 Part 2 And while we were thinking Civil War was coming, Marvel has gone big with Infinity War, breaking it up into two parts that come out summer 2018 and summer 2019.

The Avengers have already triumphed over Loki, and next summer they’ll face Ultron…but nothing could prepare them for the menace of Thanos.

How big of a threat does Thanos pose, you ask? Big enough to span two epic films, beginning with Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War Part 1” on May 4, 2018, and concluding in Marvel’s “Avengers: Infinity War Part 2” on May 3, 2019 for one massive cinematic event.

“We’ve always had a plan since Nick Fury broke into Tony Stark’s house and told him he’s part of a bigger universe,” recalled Feige. “‘Avengers: Infinity War Part 1’ is the beginning of the culmination of everything that has come before.”

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 Guardians of the Galaxy 2 moves up to May 5th, 2017.

We previously reported that the sequel to Marvel’s hit “Guardians of the Galaxy” would cruise into theaters in July of 2017…but Star-Lord and his crew have had a change of mind!

The Guardians will now return May 5, 2017, with writer/director James Gunn also returning to helm our oddball heroes’ next adventure.

While we can’t give you a title or any more details just yet, fret not, because we’ve got plenty of other news coming your way on Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe!

Captain America - Civil WarAnd hey, we do get our Civil War film with Captain America 3.

Chris Evans will once again reprise his role as Captain America, joined by Robert Downey, Jr. as Iron Man and Chadwick Boseman, who will make his big screen debut as the Black Panther in the film.

During a special presentation announcing the full slate for Phase 3 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige brought all three actors out on stage, officially announcing the long-rumored title for the third Captain America adventure.
