Third ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ Feature Getting Pushed Back?

2 min read

Amazing Spider-Man 2 Image 3With the second half of this decade filling up fast on superhero material, it looks like one of them may be getting a delay. While Sony had mapped out plans for Spider-Man features and spinoffs year starting in 2016, word is that the Amazing Spider-Man 3 may be getting pushed back to 2017 in order to evaluate what’s going wrong. In some ways it’s hard to imagine “going wrong” when the new film landed with a $700 million worldwide take, but when it’s lower than Amazing Spider-Man by about $70 million and that film was lower than the first three films that started over a decade ago, something is wrong. Whether it’s bad casting, scripting, too many villains or just character fatigue, the plans for the franchise feel a bit uncertain now. Especially after Drew Goddard left the Daredevil Netflix series to go work on the sinister Six film.

The unconfirmed word is that the third installment will hit in 2017 and potentially that means re-arranging the other films, though how well that would work out with interconnected films remains to be seen. There’s also the potential that, as mentioned in a couple of other places, that Marvel and Sony may work together to produce the films directly and connected to what Marvel Studios is doing, that could push things back as well – and allow the character to connect with the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
