Satsuki Yoshino’s ‘Barakamon’ Anime Adds More Supporting Cast

BarakamonWith an undated but planned 2014 broadcast, the anime adaptation of Barakamon has added a few new actors to the mix this week. The supporting cast is starting to flesh out as we now get to add:

  • Hiroshi Kido: Koki Uchiyama
  • Miwa Yamamura: Nozomi Furuki
  • Tamako Arai: Rumi Ohkubo
  • Hina: Rina Endou
  • Kenta: Seiya Hirata
  • Akihiko Arai: Megumi Han
  • Village Chief: Tanuki Sugino
  • Vice Principal: Fumihiko Tachiki

We previously learned that Daisuke Ono was going to take on the lead role of Seishi Handa, Junichi Suwabe as Takasei Kawafuji and Yuuki Kaji has signed on to play Kosuke Kanzaki. Daisuke Kinema Citrus will be handling the animation for the production. HiMasaki Tachibana is directing the series based on the scripts by Pierre Sugiura with character designs by Majiro.

The manga series began in 2009 by Satsuki Yoshino and released its eighth installment last fall in compiled form. Yen Press picked up the series for distribution here earlier this year as well. Satsuki Yoshino has had a few other series running prior to this one with a handful of anthology books and short stories as well as the five volume release of Princess of Mana.

Plot concept: As a punishment for punching a famous Calligrapher, young handsome Calligrapher Handa Seishu is exiled on a small island. As someone who has never lived outside of a city, Handa has to adapt to his new wacky neighbors, like people traveling on a tractor, unwanted visitors who never use the front door, annoying kids using his home as a playground, etc. Can this city guy handle all the crazy hardships? Find out in this wacky island comedy full of innocence and laughter!!!
