Bakumatsu Gidjiden Roman Episode 6
Lost in a dark tunnel… That’s an apt metaphor for the series as a whole…

What They Say:
Romans one true love has been kidnapped by a pervert. He has been asked by Orin to find her and so has Magoichi who has received some bad information.

When Okuni goes missing, Roman is called upon to find her. While he finds Okuni, he also finds himself under arrest by Magoichi after citizens falsely accuse him of being the kidnapper. The trio then find themselves down the rabbit hole and in a tunnel filled with traps. They manage to find their way out, but the traps lead Okuni and Magoichi to suspect that the other is not quite what they appear.

The only other miniscule scrap of story development is that the tunnel was made by rebels, rebels Okuni appears to be familiar with. A chuckle was managed when Roman tried to avoid explaining what a pleasure house was to his younger sister. However, this yet another throw away episode that serves up a drop of plot development and expects the audience to believe it is a lavish banquet.

In Summary:
An apt metaphor if there ever was one, Roman is heading down a dark tunnel with seemingly no idea what lies ahead. We trudge on with it, but all I can see at the end is a train wreck of rushed storytelling to compensate for six episodes worth of filler and underdeveloped characters. I would rather the series abandon all pretext to a large, mysterious plot and just become a pale clone of the Lupin franchise.
