Knight In The Area Episode #23 Anime Review

3 min read

Enoshima have a tough match against Yoin. Last episode, it looked like they were fighting for their lives. Nothing changes in this episode.

What They Say:
“Desperate Situation”

The match against Yoin continues and they are proving to be a well-trained team, able to counter any strategy Enoshima throws at them. The team is waiting for a miracle.

The Review:
Content: (please note that content portions of a review may contain spoilers)
We are in the second half of the match against Yoin and it is not looking very good for Enoshima. Of course, just about everyone and their grandmother (okay, maybe not your grandmother) could have predicted that things would go this way. It’s practically a law of sports dramas, live action or animated, that “our team” has to be pushed to the brink of elimination before rallying back to win and move on in the tournament. Of course, you are only telegraphing this stock route of action by naming the episode “Desperate Situation.”

As the first half winds down, Coach Iwaki decides to attempt to mix things up by putting in comic relief Kota. Will that make a difference? Who knows. Iwaki has a strategy in mind, however, as Kota is very fast, so he can at least match speed with Yoin’s dangerous sideline hugger Onimaru. It doesn’t put an end to Enoshima’s problems, however, since Yoin has multiple weapons. Of course, Yoin scores right before the half.

Can Enoshima come back to take control and win the game? Plot dictates that they will, but it’s going to be really difficult. So, how do they do it? Well, they don’t do it this episode, as this game is dragged into another episode.

Okay, now I’m bored.

That’s it, really, I’m bored. Let’s just kick the puppy (Kakeru) a few times before allowing him to make an amazing comeback. My, how, uh, “original.” I wonder if there is time left in the season to end the tournament? It doesn’t look like it. And by doing this, dragging this game into another episode, the writing has really let us, the viewers, down, since this isn’t even all that exciting a match.

In Summary:
Enoshima began this episode in a dangerous position, tied 1-1 with the momentum favoring Yoin. They end this episode in even worse position than they started, as they’ve fallen behind. But the pain isn’t over, as the game isn’t over. But my interest in what happens next is almost at an end.
