Lionsgate is getting its goods out there a bit this weekend with a quick official look from the studio with Karl Urban wearing the full Judge Dredd uniform for the 2011 UK release of Dredd. The $45 million budget film is being directed by Pete Travis (Vanishing Point) based on a script by Alex Garland, who is also serving as one of the producers. The film is being shot in South Africa in the city of Johannesburg with a lot of claims that the script is being faithful to the original concept. Of course, with the original work having run since 1977, there’s been plenty of interpretations and variations over the years, but they’re still putting forth that this will be the truly faithful one. While Urban takes on the lead role, it also includes Olivia Thirlby as Judge Anderson. Check out the official image below.
Plot summary: ‘Dredd’ takes us to the wild streets of Mega City One, the lone oasis of quasi-civilization on Cursed Earth. Judge Dredd (Urban) is the most feared of elite Street Judges, with the power to enforce the law, sentence offenders and execute them on the spot – if necessary.
