Live Action ‘Rurouni Kenshin’ Going Forward

2 min read

While they’ve been wanting to make it for the past three years, figuring out how to work with the twenty-eight volumes of Rurouni Kenshin material and a legion of fans has proven daunting. But with Warner Bros. Japan now involved in bringing this to fruition, after dealing with such features as Paradise Kiss and others including distribution of Death Note overseas, they’re now set to bring this out in 2012 with Ken Sato taking on the role of Himura Kenshin. This comes as the fifteenth anniversary of the property is making some waves, such as the release of the OVAs and movie on Blu-ray in Japan and the US at the same time, and Warner Bros. Japan is seeking to capitalize on that and something that will do well both in Japan and overseas. The feature, to be directed by Hiroshi Otomo, will be rooted in the manga of the same name by Nobuhiro Watsuki and the report from AnimeAnime.JP pushes the idea that they are definitely eyeing the international market for this with it being a historical feature with plenty of action, known characters as the series did air on Cartoon Network, and plenty of word of mouth.
