Things go from bad to worse to worst to whatever this is.

What They Say:
Controlled by Cerebrum because of the Daemonia he infected her with, Luna, in the form of a wolf, heads to Sefiro Fiore. Akari and Seira are unsure how to counter Luna’s attacks. With only a few episodes left, it’s not surprising that this series is trying to be as intense as possible. Luna comes to fight as a Daemonia, and Seira is perfectly fine with going all out to destroy her, just like any other. However, Luna has the upper hand, and in the end only Akari is left to stop her, the one person who doesn’t want to harm Luna in any way. Not surprising whatsoever, Luna does still have some of her humanity intact, which further serves to keep Akari from fighting her, but also makes the possibility of her being the first Daemonia to be brought back much more likely. Their bond is hardly a significant sign of hope, though, as everything else is going as horribly as possible. Along with the one person willing to fight unable to do so, Cerebrum has gotten his politician puppet to convince a ridiculously gullible public that this tarot school is home to a bunch of witches who are creating all the problems and so of course they all form an angry mob and burn the place to the ground. That seems pretty realistic, right?

So yeah, as should be expected from this series by now, the clichés continue to pile up. The main character’s best friend is controlled by the bad guy but retains her sense of self enough to give hope of coming back fine? This show has always tried too hard to be grim, so if anything at least it would seem appropriate if it stuck with that and forced our loving protagonist to do the last thing she wants to do, for the greater good, much like what Seira was ready to do. As Akari is left to fight all the Daemonia alone, she does kill many who beg her not to with no hesitation, so considering how much of the story has been focused on her treating them like any other humans and giving them the respect they deserve, it’s rather hypocritical and contradictory for her to mow them all down without a word, but refuse to touch Luna.

Seira herself hasn’t given up on being useful, as she’s seen heading toward the enemy, and honestly that will probably be more interesting than the main fight, despite the fact that it likely won’t end well. The fact that Luna was able to completely take away her powers with such ease, and yet the good guys will surely find some way to win out in the end, feels like another case of really lazy writing meant to get Seira out of the picture as a real contender without finding a smarter way to do so. With that seemingly only leaving Akari to deal with, Cerebrum goes straight for eliminating her, in about as obvious a disguise as his Akari suit last time, but of course we need to have one hope left, so that doesn’t quite go as he planned. After all, this isn’t a show about the bad guys winning so much as it’s about the good guys suffering, over and over.

In Summary:
Things are obviously going very terribly for the protagonists. There is some hope for Luna’s survival, but basically everyone but an unwilling Akari is taken out of commission, and Cerebrum’s ability to convince a bunch of adults that a school is full of witches without any evidence is quite ridiculous. But hey, it’s all about making things as bad as they can be, rather than actually writing a story that makes sense in the context of the world it’s created, and for that purpose, you can’t deny that the show is doing something right.
