It’s been a pretty good two-week or so period for Avatar: The Way of Water as it’s now reached a $1.38 billion mark worldwide since its debut. It added another $63 million over the weekend for its three-day period and that has it at $421 million domestically while the rest is international. Suffice it to say, there’s definitely still interest in this property after the original film came out in 2009.
In fact, according to the stats, the film did better on New Year’s Eve than on Christmas Eve, though some of that can be attributed to the weather problems across a huge chunk of the country just before Christmas and its impact on travel.
The film isn’t getting much in the ay of competition as there isn’t a lot in the theaters but Puss in Boots: The Last Wish has added another $16 million to its count to bring it up to over $60 million.
Everything else is under $5 million and not adding much overall.
