A new anime adaptation is in the works with the announcement back in January 2021 of Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie getting the nod. Known as Kawaii dake ja nai Shikimori-san in Japan, it was announced with plans for an April 9th, 2022 debut set for it. With the date set, a couple of promos, and visuals behind us, the official site is continuing with updates. The latest update comes just as the series is about to debut as we get a new character visual of her for the spring period, which means lots of sakura-themed elements to go with that hair.
It’ll be directed by Ryota Itoh with Shohei Yamanaki as the assistant director working from the scripts by Yoshimi Narita. Ai Kikuchi is handling the character designs with Koga Kobo handling the animation production.
The Japanese cast includes:
- Saori Ōnishi as Shikimori
- Shūichirō Umeda as Izumi
- Misato Matsuoka as Nekozaki
- Rina Hidaka as Hachimitsu
- Nobuhiko Okamoto as Inuzuka
- Ayaka Fukuhara as Kamiya
Nasuo☆ will perform the opening theme song while Yuki Nakashima will perform the ending song.
The manga comes from creator Keigo Maki which began in 2018 as serialized in Magazine Pocket. The title was picked as one of the properties from Kodansha Comics USA to get a print release in North America which began in October 2020.

Plot Concept: Shikimori seems like the perfect girlfriend: cute, fun to be around, sweet when she wants to be… but she has a cool dark side that comes out under the right circumstances. And her boyfriend Izumi loves to be around when that happens! A fun and funny high school romance with a sassy twist perfect for fans of Nagatoro-san and Komi Can’t Communicate!
