“Accomplices”

What They Say:

In a world where demons feed on unsuspecting humans, fragments of the legendary and feared demon Ryoumen Sukuna were lost and scattered about. Should any demon consume Sukuna’s body parts, the power they gain could destroy the world as we know it. Fortunately, there exists a mysterious school of Jujutsu Sorcerers who exist to protect the precarious existence of the living from the undead!

Yuuji Itadori is high schooler who spends his days visiting his bedridden grandfather. Although he looks like your average teenager, his immense physical strength is something to behold! Every sports club wants him to join, but Itadori would rather hang out with the school outcasts in the Occult Club. One day, the club manages to get their hands on a sealed cursed object, but little do they know the terror they’ll unleash when they break the seal…

The season finale of Jujutsu Kaisen is unsurprisingly another hype-inducing banger of an episode. The episode continues where the last let off as Yuuji and Nobara prepare to face the special-grade curse users Eso and Kechizu, who use their poisonous blood as a curse technique. Yuuji and Nobara try to avoid getting hit with the blood but they eventually get splattered by it and are afflicted with its poison. Shortly after, the episode shifts gears and explains the brothers’ origins as cursed wombs born from a human woman long ago which classifies them as special-grade cursed objects. As previously shown, these wombs were then stolen by Mahito, who planted them on human bodies. Mahito then convinced them to work with him to achieve his goals.

We’re then taken back to the present, where Nobara reveals her trump card, “Resonance,” which is a technique that turns an opponent’s technique against them. This makes the user affected by their own curse along with the victim until the technique is released. Meanwhile, Yuuji is able to move freely due to being immune to poison as Sukuna’s vessel, so he uses the opportunity to deal heavy damage on Kechizu. While under pressure, Eso is forced to release the technique, which allows Nobara to deal the finishing blow on Kechizu. Eso then tries to escape but is caught once again by Nobara’s technique while Yuuji lands the final blow. After the whole ordeal, Yuuji asks Nobara how she felt about killing actual people and not curses for the first time. She gives an earnest and direct answer but acknowledges that today they’re both accomplices.

Shortly after, word gets out to their allies and enemies about the trio’s success in killing the special-grade curses. Yuuji and Nobara then regroup with Fushiguro, and Sukuna eats the finger Fushiguro acquired. Meanwhile, Goujou continues the investigation to figure out who the traitor is at Jujutsu Tech, Fushiguro deduces that Yuuji triggered the recent cases involving special-grade curses when he unleashed Sukuna, and Yuuji, Nobara, Fushiguro, Maki, and Panda are nominated to become special-grade sorcerers. The episode ends hinting at another big mission for the trio.

In Summary:

Episode 24 didn’t pull any punches with the final fight of the season as expected. Not only that, but it also allowed us to see how well Yuuji and Nobara work together as two bad ass characters. It also shows how well they’ve grown as individuals and sorcerers, something both the viewers and other characters notice. I also like how the episode points out the moral conundrum Yuuji now constantly has to face as a result of his albeit righteous actions. Meanwhile, Sukuna has done nothing but troll Yuuji and eat fingers for the last ten or so episodes.

The episode also ends on a high note, hinting at another grand event to come, and judging by the series’ success and newly announced movie, I have no doubt this won’t be the last we see of Jujutsu Kaisen in an anime format.
