Considering the kind of schedule that Eiichiro Oda puts in when it comes to One Piece, it’s a surprise he doesn’t get hit with illness more often. According to a new update at the Japanese edition of Weekly Shonen Jump, Oda’s series One Piece will be taking a break for the next two issues as Oda is being hospitalized for a peritonsillar abscess, a complication due to an infection frequently caused by tonsillitis. Becaus eof this, the manga will not appear in the two upcoming issues that are set for May 27 and June 3. According to the editors, the serial is expected to resume again on June 10th.

Oda began One Piece back in 1997 at Weekly Shonen Jump and hasn’t missed too much overall in the years since. The series has released 69 compiled volumes to date, many are million plus sellers in its home territory, and it’s spawned an ongoing anime adaptation that is just under six hundred episodes so far. The franchise is supported with numerous movies, video games and even a few light novels along the way, though the last one debuted back in 2008.
