As the series goes forward, and looks to have several more issues ahead of it, it’s continuing to prove to be a lot of fun but definitely needed to hit this point. Amy Chu is now delivering on some of the results of the investigations and other plans so that we know whose behind things, which five issues in feels more than right. I’ve enjoyed her take on these characters much as I have Maria Sanapo’s work with the team handling the artwork and color design. It’s appealing with the characters without being overdone and it handles all the school and town settings well so that it feels like Riverdale but could still be anywhere.
With the attacks having gone as much as they have now, putting the town into curfew mode definitely has the right idea about it. It’s not exactly the best thing for a lot of the town, especially businesses, but you can get away with a lot in trying to promote public safety. Now that Dilton’s awake, the hope for clues increases but he hadn’t actually seen much since the person that attacked him are actually persons and they were mostly cloaked. More clues to come in thanks to the detective as she has some footage from a different event that draws the eye, but mostly Dilton’s not able to help much. Well, at least beyond being bait to get killed again in order to draw in the killer. Dilton’s amusing in how he’s not up for this until Betty starts giving him smooches on the cheek to thank him for his help.
While coming up with a decent plan to draw attention to Dilton it actually catches the attention of Libby at the Blue and Gold. She’s got plenty of concern with what Betty’s doing but the reality is that she’s part of this mysterious cloaked gang as she opted for power and influence given to her by them than earned by her own work. That it turns out the entire editorial club is on the same says way too much but it at least puts a group in front of our group to know how they orchestrated some of what’s gone down and as it went beyond what they originally thought. The attacks that follow work well in that regard though Libby falls too easily into that giving up the plans monologue that far too many villains do. It at least brings Betty and Veronica up to speed just in the nick of time to put them in more trouble too.
In Summary:
Red Sonja & Vampirella Meet Betty & Veronica continues to deliver the book that it promised from the first issue and I’m enjoying it. Things are a little more roundabout here int his issue and it takes time to get to the better material but it all connects well enough. I like seeing the various bonding elements that have come in and the way everyone works together against the unseen forces that are overwhelming now. The reveal itself isn’t too much of a surprise overall but it sets us up for how it’ll all go down from here and it was a nice play from a side that’s often the one doing all the investigating.
