With as many spinoff works as there are in the manga realm and elsewhere for the Madoka Magica franchise, it’s surprising that more anime adaptations haven’t surfaced. We learned last fall that the mobile game Magia Record: Puella Magi Madoka Magica Gaiden is getting an anime adaptation that will debut sometime in 2019. The official site has now updated with some new information. The series is now formally set for a January 2020 debut and it was revealed that ClariS will handle the opening theme song while TrySail will handle the ending theme song.

Additionally, a new key visual and promotional video arrived that you can see below.

The Japanese cast includes:

  • Momo Asakura as Iroha Tamaki
  • Sora Amamiya as Yachiyo Nanami
  • Shiina Natsukawa as Tsuruno Yui
  • Ayane Sakura as Felicia Mitsuki

Property concept: The game takes place in the burgeoning city of Kamihama. Guided by a strange power, magical girls gather in this town and battle with a new power drawn from witches. Iroha Tamaki arrives in this town and joins other magical girls to search for her missing younger sister Ui. Before long, Homura Akemi also arrives in the town. “If I can understand the mystery of this town, maybe I can save Kaname.”
