Jill Soloway Set To Write & Direct ‘Red Sonja’

2 min read

With Bryan Singer having gotten gotten the boot awhile ago in regards to the Red Sonja directors chair, the search has now finished for who will take it over. Millennium currently holds the rights to the Red Sonja character and are looking to get that moving even after other recent problems with similar characters not connecting with audiences, such as Conan.

Jill Soloway of the Amazon series Transparent has come on to both write and direct and her producing partner Andrea Sperling is coming on board to produce as well. It’s a radically different work than what she’s been involved with before and it’ll be interesting to see what approach she takes and how the casting works out as nobody is in place for it yet.

“I can’t wait to bring Red Sonja’s epic world to life,” Soloway told Deadline. “Exploring this powerful mythology and evolving what it means to be a heroine is an artistic dream come true.”

Dynamite Entertainment has been producing comics for the character for several years and has done a great job in modernizing it, especially with a number of women taking on the writing duties.
