The Weekly Movies Discussion Post For February 24th, 2019

The deluge of TV material recently really has made it so that movies are further down my list than usual, which is frustrating me because I've got a growing backlog but the serialized nature of so many of the shows I watch is just more compelling at the moment.

The deluge of TV material recently really has made it so that movies are further down my list than usual, which is frustrating me because I’ve got a growing backlog but the serialized nature of so many of the shows I watch is just more compelling at the moment. What it is doing, however, is getting me to figure out what it is I need to watch.

The big one that will get me back into theaters is the upcoming Captain Marvel film, but that’s a no-brainer. I opted to pass on LEGO 2 and just wait to pick it up for a home video release, so that combined with seeing Alita has my February all wrapped up with what I wanted to see. And with Captain Marvel opening on the 8th, there isn’t a lot being put into the theater the week before so it’s pretty light there as well. Counterprogramming does work to some degree but when you know a lot of women are going to see the next Marvel film, you get a little more wary. Hell, studios are so wary there’s nothing I’m seeing until April 5th with Shazam after that because of the weak slate of March films.

But that just means it’s a chance to catch up on my home video side backlog. At the top of that is one that I’ve wanted to see forever but just haven’t with West Side Story. My interest resurfaced after seeing so much of Rita Moreno from the film in the One Day at a Time reboot on Netflix, and thankfully the film is on Netflix as well.

I also want to revisit Professor Marston and the Wonder Women as I  enjoyed it in theaters and I’ve got the new French film A Breath Away to take in as well. Recent pickups also include Colette and Bad Times at the El Royale and I’ve got an itch to see the Logan Noir that came with the set I bought.

What’s crowding up your backlog that you really need to just sit down and watch?
