‘Rose of Versailles’ Anime Going Out Of Print

2 min read

Nozomi Entertainment has revealed that their license of the Rose of Versailles classic anime series, a property that many thought would never have been licensed to begin with, is about to go out of print as their license is expiring. The distributor has revealed that the streaming will finish up on YouTube by June 15th and that no new DVDs will be printed after that point either, so when the DVDs they and other retailers have on hand sell out, that’s it, folks.

The anime adaptation was done in 1979 and that finally got licensed by Right Stuf and released in 2013 in two halves on DVD. UDON Entertainment licensed the manga back in 2015.

Plot concept: Raised from birth as a man, the Lady Oscar commands the palace guards at Versailles in the years before the French Revolution. Her beauty and noble spirit make her a shining figure in the eyes of both men and women but she is torn between her chosen life of service and duty to class and country and her own heart and desires. She lives as a noble amidst the opulence of Versailles but her keen senses and compassion are not blinded to the poverty of the French people.
