‘Wonder Woman’ Sequel Dated

2 min read

Wonder Woman PosterThe success of Wonder Woman is still making waves but things are shaping up a bit as the ripple effect from it is flowing outward. While no sequel was scheduled or setup previously as the general view of  Warner Bros. was that they weren’t expecting much, the studio has now set a December 13th, 2009 release date for it. The first film is still in theaters and rolling in the money as it’s crossed the $780 million mark worldwide so far and is likely to be the highest grossing summer film domestically.

The sequel will be written by Patty Jenkins and Geoff Johns and will star (at least) Gal Gadot.

It’s expected that Patty Jenkins will be back to direct the sequel but Warner Bros. didn’t have that locked up before the first as, again, they expected it to be a one-off film. But as we saw with the new Justice League SDCC trailer, the studio is leaning into the popularity of the character and the actress by making her the standout in it and that’s only going to continue for a bit.

Wonder Woman is now the third highest grossing domestic film of all time for Warner Bros. behind The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises at $533 and $448 million respectively.
