‘Star Trek: Discovery’ Finds Its Lead With Sonequa Martin-Green

2 min read

sonequa-martin-greenThe casting for Star Trek: Discovery has finally hit the key piece with the lead of the series with the reveal of Sonequa Martin-Green taking the role. Martin-Green is currently seen irregularly as a lead in The Walking Dead and due to the different shooting schedules with that series filming in the summer it’s expected that it won’t impact her role on that show and that this casting reveal does not indicate her character’s death on The Walking Dead. Martin-Green will play Lt. Cmdr. Rainsford who we see the story of the first thirteen episode season through as opposed to the captain of the ship.

Previous casting includes Michelle Yeoh’s role as she’ll be playing Captain Georgiou, the Starfleet Captain aboard the Starship Shenzhou, Doug Jones as Lr. Saru and Anthony Rapp as Lt. Stamens.  Also involved are Chris Obi as T’Kuvma, Shazad Latif as Kol and Mary Chieffo as L’rell.

Alex Kurtzman will serve as executive producer for the new Star Trek TV series. Kurtzman and Heather Kadin will serve as executive producers. Bryan Fuller is on board as showrunner, co-creator and executive producer and Nicholas Meyer is working on some of the scripts.
