Discotek Media has picked up a new project for release with The Galaxy Railways: A Letter from the Abandoned Planet. The acquisition was discovered by WTK as the series is now listed on Crunchyroll with Discotek Media listed as the rights holder for it. No episodes are available for streaming yet. The four-part OVA series came out at the end of 2006 and was directed by Hideaki Oba based on the screenplay by Yasuyuki Muto and was animated by Planet.
The main Japanese cast includes Asami Sanada as Louise Fort Drake, Naoki Yanagi as Manabu Yuuki, Akio Ohtsuka as Schwanhelt Bulge, Akira Ishida as Kilian Black, Hikaru Midorikawa as David Young, Naoko Suzuki as Yuki Sexaroid and Youko Asagami as Leila Destiny Shura.
The show was a bridge between the two season that were created though it came out in the middle of the second season, though it was started on before the second TV series. The first series was licensed and released by FUNimation in the US but they did not pick up any further rights after that as it did not perform well enough to merit it.
Plot concept: The Galaxy Express 999 crashes on the off-limits planet of Herise and it’s up to the SDF Sirius Platoon to assist.
