Madman Entertainment Acquires ‘Empire of Corpses’ Anime Feature

The Empire of Corpses VisualThe Project Itoh films are making their way around the world and the folks at Madman Entertainment have added The Empire of Corpses to their list of acquisitions. The feature is being scheduled for a September 7th, 2016 debut on separate DVD and Blu-ray releases priced at $34.95 and $39.95 respectively. No extras are currently listed for the releases yet.

The film was directed by Ryoutarou Makihara based on the character designs by redjuice with animation done by WIT STUDIO. EGOIST performed the theme song for this feature film.

The Japanese cast includes Yoshimasa Hosoya as John H. Watson, Ayumu Murase as Friday, Taiten Kusunoki as Frederick Barnaby,Daiki Yamashita as Nikolai Krasotkin, Shinichiro Miki as Alexei Karamazov, Kana Hanazawa as Hadary Lilith, and Akio Ohtsuka as M.

The English cast had its ADR direction handled by Mike McFarland, who worked on the script with J. Michael Tatum. Interestingly, they do credit Kit Buss as the English dialect advisor and Lauren Conn as the Russian dialect advisor. The cast includes Jason Liebrecht as John Watson, J Michael Tatum as Burnaby, Morgan Garrett as Hadaly, Sean Hennigan as M, R Bruce Elliott as The One, Mike McFarland as Aleksei, Micah Solusod as Nikolai, Kenny Green as Yamazawa, Todd Haberkorn as Friday and Greg Dulcie as Grant.

Plot concept: From the studio that produced Attack on Titan comes a captivating historical action thriller based on a Phillip K. Dick Award winning novel by Project Itoh. In an alternate version of 19th century London, the world has been revolutionized by “corpse reanimation technology” creating armies of undead who serve the living as laborers across the globe.

In an attempt to revive his dearly departed friend, young medical student John Watson becomes obsessed with replicating the work of Dr. Victor Frankenstein—the legendary corpse engineer whose research produced the only re-animated corpse to possess a soul. But when his illegal experiments put him at odds with the British government, Watson is drafted into a worldwide race to find the lost research notes of Victor Frankenstein before the secrets of the human soul fall into the wrong hands.
