‘Barakamon’ Prequel Manga ‘Handa-kun’ Getting Anime Adaptation

2 min read

Handa-kun Volume 1 CoverWith the success of the 2014 anime series Barakamon, it’s no surprise that more is coming, albeit in a different direction. An anime adaptation of the prequel series Handa-kun has been announced though no date or production team has been revealed for it. Barakamon was animated by Kinema Citrus and it won’t be surprising to see them come back for this story that takes place six year before Barakamon. Four volumes of the manga have been released since 2013 with the fifth due out next week when we’ll likely hear more about this new production.

Yen Press has the North American rights for the book with plans for a February 23rd, 2016 debut for the first volume.

Plot concept: Seishuu Handa is admired by his peers as a calligraphy genius and given the utmost respect, but Handa-kun himself is under the mistaken impression that the deference and attention he receives from the other students is actually bullying. Handa just wants to live a quiet life, but hilarity ensues as one character after another challenges his position as the school idol, and somehow comes away as a fan all while Handa is horrified and clueless.
