The CW Adds Two Science Fiction Pilots

2 min read

The fall pilot season planning is fully underway and while things have largely been dominated by sitcoms when it comes to what’s been announced so far, some intriguing hour long dramas are starting to emerge. The folks at the CW have had a stronger season overall this year with some solid pickups from their pilot lottery last year (we’re loving Secret Circle and Ringer, and even have a guilty pleasure in Hart of Dixie) and it looks like the network has some potentially strong science fiction plans for the fall if these pilots pass muster. With the Green Arrow series already going to pilot, the CW has approved pilots for The Selection and Joey Dakota.

The Selection comes from the upcoming series of books by Kiera Cass and, according to the report, “is described as an epic romance set 300 years in the future that centers on a poor young woman who is chosen by lottery to participate in a competition to become the next queen of a war-torn nation at a crossroads.”

Joey Dakota has a different feel to it to be sure as it’s based off of the Israeli half-hour series Danny Hollywood. “[I]t centers on a documentary filmmaker who travels back in time to the 1990s, where she meets and falls in love with the rock-star subject of her film. When she unexpectedly returns to present day, she must find her way back to the past to reunite with her love and prevent his untimely death.”
