2 min read

AllegiantWhile the Divergent series of films may not be doing Hunger Games numbers, the franchise is one that doe well for Lionsgate as it’s their highest grossing franchise after Hunger Games and the Twilight series, so it’s no surprise that they’re pushing forward with the third book as a two film split with Allegiant. After the first two books to film have made $550 million worldwide theatrically, the next installment is set to land on March 18th, 2016. With the theatrical run done for Insurgent, production is now moving forward formally with principal photography beginning on Allegiant Part 1 with Robert Schwentke returning as the director. Newly joining the production this time around are Nadia Hilker and Bill Skarsgård.

The distributor is still hoping that the film series finds a solid life theatrically and afterwards as the novels have sold 34 million copies worldwide since they began in 2011, 17 million copies of which sold after the first Divergent film was released.

The film series stars Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Ansel Elgort, Kate Winslet, Naomi Watts, Octavia Spencer, Jai Courtney, Miles Teller and Zoe Kravitz.

Plot concept: After the earth-shattering revelations of INSURGENT, in Allegiant Part 1 Tris (Shailene Woodley) must escape with Four (Theo James) beyond the Wall that encircles Chicago to finally discover the shocking truth of what lies behind it.
